Year 9 students have successfully completed their Bronze DofE expedition. It was one of the hottest weekends so far this year but our students still managed to navigate an epic 10 miles each day carrying everything but the kitchen sink!!
The students have been preparing for their final expedition all year. They started their route at South Lodge just outside Worksop and headed south east through Clumber Park before heading to Walesby where they set up camp for the night. Despite the fatigue the students successfully erected their tents and replenished their depleted energy levels cooking a variety of culinary delights, from chilli con carne to pad thai noodles, using a trangia. After a night under canvas the students completed their final day finishing at the new Sherwood Forest visitor centre in Edwinstowe.
The students should all be extremely proud of their achievement – congratulations go to each and every one of them. They have all shown the ability to work as part of a team, utilising individual strengths and supporting each other. They have developed self confidence and the belief that they can achieve anything if they set their mind to it.
DofE has also demonstrated the importance of the partnership we have between students, parents and school. Special thanks go to the parents (and staff) that volunteered each weekend to ensure the students were supervised throughout their expedition.
